Sir,

In one of the GRE analogy questions I was not able to make a connection between the following
pair of words and so got stuck with the answer. Can you explain/
        Dialectics : Reasoning
a.   Canon    : religion
b.   Hubris : presumption
c.   Rhetoric  : credibility
d.   Pedagogy : intelligence
e.   Convention : practice

The term  “dialectic” is the  the art of inference or argument. In this sense it is synonymous with logic. It also  , implies  special aptitude or acuteness in reasoning, "dialectical skill";  likewise the  pair of words Canon and religion makes a connection .  Canon is the body of laws to follow a religion.  You cannot make similar relationship with the other pairs of words. Hope this explanation helps.
