Management theories...do they really work?

Dear  Sir,

I have been reading the  messages on Business schools , MBA  quality  etc. Though being a layman,
I have taken lot of interest in evaluating the performance and results of Management theories, training sessions and  Workshops  in corporates without any substantial progress.  But there is so much  importance given to managers from  top tier business school s.  My question here is whether management theories brought about any meaning to productivity ?
