Engineering students must be Research -Oriented

Crucial to the performance of Engineering colleges is their ability to inspire their students to engage themselves in research. But unfortunately not enough motivation is forthcoming from colleges , Universities and even Heads of Departments. A good number of students have no conceptual clarity and they move on to the higher classes without having understood their subjects thoroughly. There are some extreme cases - those who come from educated families , with sufficient English knowledge to grasp every lesson in its entirety, prepare and submit research papers and they have no time or the inclination to share their knowledge with their peers. Among them are a few who choose to keep themselves in such exclusivity enjoying certain intellectual privacy. It is important that lecturers and professors show more concern and get connected to their students in need. In fact, Chennai has produced outsatanding professionals and everyday there is some news or the other about those who have made significant contributions in Science & Technology . Recently there was news about one Dr.Sridhar who by inventing the "Bloom Box" has undertaken to redefine traditional power generation. Another exemplar was SRM's research scholar and Nano Technologist R.Shivaraman who has been hired by Seagate Technlogy on an enviable salary. If only more support and encouragement were offered by institutions Indian students would easily outperform their Western counterparts.
