I want to qualify for one fo the top Business schools. I am advised to get a research paper published and if possible a journal article
so that it can be peer evaluated. Any suggestions?

Any  research paper  should describe a problem  and  how it fits into your field of study . For example ,  as you are planning to qualify for top management schools, you could  research a global topic  such as SWP(strategic workforce planning)   which makes  business sense  for a company to grow globally. This is an  important aspect to consider from Business- unit to Enterprise level.  Even a fledgling company  which understands the quality of  its human capital and deploys it  discreetly  would  emerge as a global player. Having  captured  the big  idea, your  next task is to identify problems relating to deployment of workforce which calls for strategies. It is enough if you could devise a single strategy and follow it up to the end.
Secondly you have to identify a thesis from which the paper flows logically.  All issues relating to the topic should have been highlighted in the  thesis .
The paper should have enough background information for anyone  to understand the problem .
By numbering the   paragraphs  you could keep your flow of thoughts well under control.
Your  introduction must  lead effectively into the paper and likewise your conclusion too.
Check along the way whether  you need to add more information  for  any  particular   point  and whether  the paper has coherence  with appropriate transitions within and  between paragraphs.
Make sure  the sources  are integrated smoothly into the flow of the paper.  Avoid  frequent use of  "According to,"  to point of references. Information in quotes, paraphrases, and summaries should be  authentic  and clearly acknowledged. The Works Cited entries should be properly formatted.
Proofread the paper for errors for  grammatical or mechanical errors  more than  once or twice.
Target  a journal which goes for your sort of stuff .  Critical to the value of your publication in getting jobs  or qualifying  to top Universities, is the  acceptance of  your  paper by a  properly refereed (also called peer-reviewed) journal with a good international reputation.   .
Goodluck!
