In my understanding the physical environment relates to and can support the learning process.
As a child grows, he or she typically learns in different ways, and the physical environment of the school should effect this characteristic. Most educational theories such as Bloom's 'Taxonomy of Educational Objectives' and also Howard Gardner's 'Multiple Intelligences'   applied to school design make it clear that physical environment should reinforce the educational program. No fixed classroom environment will do the job properly.Training materials for teachers also  reinforce the relationship of the classroom's physical environment. Following points will help

1. Visibility of the chalk/white board
2.seating arrangement to minimize  unnecessary talking but to maximize collaborative learning
3.Students need personal space to feel they belong to the classroom
4.learning centres to focus on  specific content areas
5.Visual displays
6.connect spaces to promote communication, orientation and flexible programming and staffing.
